"Napoleon: Total War" Trailer
"Image Metrics provided us with a supportive and high quality service resulting in the efficient capture and integration of all the subtle facial expressions we needed our Napoleon model to portray. "
With the help of Image Metrics' proprietary performance capture technology, Napoleon has been immortalized as a video game character. The animated performance can now be seen in Sega's game trailer for the widely anticipated "Napoleon: Total War", set to release in February 2010.
Sega enlisted the help of RealtimeUK to produce a life-like character to promote their upcoming project in a unique marketing trailer. Looking to provide the highest realism possible in a game character, RealtimeUK approached Image Metrics to bring Napoleon's face to life. They provided Image Metrics with an intricate 3D model of Napoleon's head and an HD video performance of a French actor. The head was rigged using Image Metrics' in-house transfer technology. The video was then analyzed using software that is able to pick up the subtle nuances in the actor's face used to drive the CG head. In just five days, Image Metrics turned around 90 seconds of facial animation ready to go in scene. This project leveraged Image-Metrics’ proprietary performace capture technology to produce a high-quality Napoleon performance in very little time.
According to RealTime UK, "Bringing to life Sega’s vision of Napoleon was never going to be a simple task, especially when the remit was to create a life-like, talking interpretation of the formidable emperor. As the main focus of the overall cinematic was Napoleon’s face it was important that viewers could empathise with the intense, yet stoic determination of the character. The task was made all the more achievable by Image Metrics' unique facial animation solution. The Image Metrics' team provided us with a supportive and high quality service resulting in the efficient capture and integration of all the subtle facial expressions we needed our Napoleon model to portray.”
